A Naga warrior, 110-year old, Yangkimong Sangtam reported to be oldest citizen in Kiphire district from Singrep village has appealed to all Nagas to unite together and work for peace and development for the betterment of the Naga society.
Yangkimong vividly remembers how he along with his friends walked from his village traversing the thick jungles for several days to reach Kohima and took part in 2nd world war supporting the British against the Japanese armed with spears and daos and had to run for safety as bombs were dropped from aircrafts.
After the battle where Britain eventually achieved victory, Yangkikomng and his friends were paid 6 coins each as pay.
Yangkimong who served as Tatar in NNC in the early 1950’s, recall meeting A.Z. Phizo at Pangsha. Today he is blessed with 175 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, great-great-great grandchildren.
Parliamentary secretary excise, legal metrology & consumer protection, economics and statistics, T. Torechu who paid a courtesy visit to the centenarian, wished him good health and long life.
